This entire is extremely fascinating. If one compares the state of internet policing/defense to that of the brick and mortar world it is evident we are in an extreme wild west. Major attacks are launched by criminal gangs on websites that in the real world would be similar to door to door extortions by organized criminals. The crime in the cyber world is extremely high, even at the lowest levels of vandalism, terrorizing the "citizenry" as sites are destroyed by teens that in previous times might have been spray painting buildings or harassing strangers.

Who Protects The Internet?
I have to agree with Tapscott's premise. Memorization is no longer the core need it once was, not that there isn't still room for memorization in some limited areas, but nearly to the extent it was useful in the past. Further, now learning is more about analytical and critical thinking skills. Understanding how to correctly process all the available information.

This is certainly true. There are certain sites which have created a "good reputation" and now receive almost automatic votes on social networks - and lesser known sites with content of the same quality do not attract the same measure of response.

Nice move on Zoho's part, and I would just like to highlight again the little known fact that Zoho is part of a larger company - AdventNet...which makes a number of excellent products aimed at enterprise IT (e.g. monitoring, log analysis).

I, for one, am happy about this decision. YouTube can be a very unsafe place for viewers...not to mention, its annoying when one wants to find the best videos on YouTube that sometimes the results are slanted by thirteen year old boys.

A shocking waste of resources when pausing to consider what the potential is for old equipment. The cost of exporting though must be massive if your flying old mega load computers across continents.

I'm not sure one needs multiple antivirus programs...though I am running McAfee and Windows Defender. One can run multiple, but it begins to significantly slow one's machine. I'd recommend education of consumers as a much better road. One can avoid 90% of viruses (I made that up on the spot) by using some "common sense" computing habits.

I wish them the best of luck. I'm looking forward to the widespread deployment of WiMax so there is some more competition for Fiber/Cable. In my opinion many of the providers supplying both forms of high-speed are offering decent technology but have let customer service waste away. Some competition would hopefully spur improved service.

Personally, I LOVE Mozy. I've used it since they were just a little guy back in the day. That said, I actually use Jungle Disk on my computer now because Mozy just became too expensive as the amount of space I needed increased. With Jungle Disk I could throw my entire hard drive onto Amazon's S3 and still only be paying a few bucks a month.

Online Backup Moves Out of the Data Center
I have no doubts that it will...and in the very near future. Pricing is still a bit of an issue, but especially for smaller firms or very large firms its becoming more of an alternative.

Online Storage Poised to Take Off, IDC Predicts
There is certainly an issue with data centers filling up....but I'm not sure I can envision what Leinwand is suggesting. First off, from a security standpoint. How would this area be protected? Standard data centers have badges, sign-ins, guards, keys and locks, cameras, the whole nine yards. I suppose you could build a huge fence with cameras around the perimeter, but then your expenses begin to skyrocket.

I gotta agree. I'm not sure what Sun's game with this is. OpenOffice.org is where it is at. Why not just offer whatever extra features are still left in StarOffice as "for-pay" add-ons to OpenOffice? Seems like a lot of work to rebrand a product that is essentially the same product.

With Twitter, a Desperate Need for Context
I'd consider myself an early lead when it comes to technology. I tend to get involved in technologies at their infancy, and I must admit I suffer a grand amount of impatience as I hope and angst for the forthcoming of a good product. I have been using ebooks for years, but it is only within the last 1-2 years that their emergence has really taken hold and a revolution as significant as the gutenberg press may be coming. can you imagine? we can send an entire college curriculum to a student on a single kindle! the opportunities for developing nations are endless. no longer do gigantic libraries need to be built to educate, rather people can walk into a small room with couches, grab a kindle for a few hours and read hundreds and thousands of the world's most important volumes and further titles are at their fingerprints. It could be a new world.
