They have a big warchest...They can spend the $300m on advertising and then billions on development...without even denting it.

I haven't had any issues yet...but I hear it could be an issue. I trust Apple will make it right.

Okay, you win. :) Let me revamp my position. We can expect that children/teens will adapt themselves to new technology like Linux but we cannot expect this to be a invisible transition. There are fundamental system differences which force change - e.g. in formats.

I have to disagree. I think kids adapt easier to applications then adults, so if a kid starts out using OpenOffice, they can always learn (if they are forced to), Microsoft Office. I also believe that if a company deployed OpenOffice, they would have difficulties at first, but over the on long run, they would be far far better off, because they would not have to keep incurring the cost of the latest and greatest copy of Microsoft Office that is forced on them.
Another benefit to applications like Open Office and Firefox is that they work the same on Mac, Windows, and Linux. I use all 3 platforms, and I can move effortlessly from one platform to another. The only time I have difficulties is when an application does work on a particular platform, so I have to find an alternative that does.

Yeah...But I object more on principle than on actual need. I'm very happy with Safari on the iPhone...Perhaps as I use the iPhone more I will see that I need Firefox, but at this juncture...

I dunno. I can get on Facebook on a Blackberry and it'll show me latest updates. Which I don't because I'm not interested. :)

This is a great idea...Though another productivity kicker. In a boring office meeting? Now people will be reading what their friends are doing at work while yawning.

A fascinating idea...Don't try and combat the hackers, hand the troublesome traffic off to a massive enterprise like Google. Of course, some of us remember the last time this was done by Israeli firm Blue Frog (an anti-spam application I yearn for daily)...They took down significant websites including Six Apart as the hack attack shifted focus.
