I visited Thoof several times, but it didn't have anything to differentiate itself to me from all the other social news sites on the web.

I tacked on an article from ArsTechnica on Midori. It fills in a lot of the blanks on what actually Microsoft is doing with the OS and where it came from.

IE8 also has separate threads for each tab so crashing only takes out part of the browser. How cool is that?

too bad it breaks your AT&T contract...

Yeah, I'm actually not a huge fan of public stock for that exact reason...People are too short-sighted and want instant returns. This not only results in short-range planning but also can result in illegitimate belt tightening (lower wages, layoffs, etc.) in order to please the shareholder...Funny thing is, we are oftentimes the shareholder - and we complain when we are laid off, yet demand it of those we invest in.

haha. I have a hard time imagining Microsoft giving up on the Windows OS...but maybe they'll start porting some applications to the web. I think web applications is the way to go myself...until my bandwidth provider croaks. :-)

lol. Yeah, must say I'd rather test 3.1 as well...though Microsoft's decisions to add more standards support and in fact to go default to standards is exciting. IN has had to deal with some real headaches concerning CSS/JS cross-browser compatibility issues.

Yeah, I'd really like to see consumers be able to get constant free credit reports. I mean you are reporting on us, shouldn't we know what you are saying about us? The companies would still make the majority of their money off businesses.

The NetShare application is great and fascinating...I'd love to get my hands on it.

This Midori OS looks really interesting. Especially the managed code/parallelism possibilities.

Their shareholders have been on edge since the dot.com bubble burst. Sun (according to history) also generally buys back shares when they want to do more long-term planning and thus can ignore the shareholders.

We already have a Windows replacement, it's call Linux. Microsoft should recognize that, and start porting applications to it. It's a big pill to swallow, but if they don't, they will just fad away............

Wow, Microsoft is now begging for beta testers? Used to be that they would have to beat them off with a stick.
Maybe I should..... nah, I would rather test Firefox 3.1....

I think more needs to be done on the credit reporting side. Allowing people to be a free yearly report was a good first step, but I think more needs to be done.
I took a look at the "Life Lock" service. That looks good, but it cost's around $10 a month, which I think is a bit excesssive. Besides, you can do everything they do, if your willing to put up with the hassle.

Currently I don't hold any stock - but if I did (and I am actually considering it based on Sun's current stock price) I would buy Sun. I'm not a fan of Java, but Sun has their fingers in a number of sweet pots - excellent new servers, a revolutionary operating system, leadership behind OpenOffice.org, the acquisition of mysql, etc. Schwartz's leadership recently from a visionary perspective has been inspiring. That said, I'd be investing my hopes in the vision/man rather than any knowledge of interior business operations or financial details.

There is a lot of potential for information to be compromised. The truth is the security of our information is largely a myth. There are very few institutions which can come even close to entirely securing their infrastructures. Even completely disconnecting them from the internet or other computers would be no guarantee with devices like USB drives. There are counter-measures to block devices like USB drives being utilized on certain computers, but the biggest issue is functionality versus security. How much do we load ourselves down with an infinite number of secure layers while at the same time exponentially reducing our abilities to complete the functions these systems were implemented for.

A fascinating development. Gives brand new impetus to citizen watches. Already cell phones have been widely used to get inside insights into tragedies as they occur. Unfortunately, I think there is also a temptation for some to stand aside and record what they should be stopping or intervening in.

I think a similar incident happened via AOL a few years back in that case it was only mail addresses not the detailed information that a mortgage lender might hold.

Seems there is so much potential out there for compromise of our personal information.

Yeah, I am torn on the issue. On the one hand, making one's users look unintelligent hurts ones campaign, on the other hand revealing the unreasoned bias against Vista - well, it makes sense.

I thought it was a pretty clever way of doing exactly what the summary suggests is wrong to do. The users ARE bias and uninformed about Vista and the clearest way to overcome that is to make everyone very aware that they need to start their evaluation of Vista again from scratch.

I'm not as opposed to UCE as Gibbs is, but I'll agree with his objection to the deceptive forms.

Just illustrates the need for a good antivirus/firewall program. If you are really paranoid you can always run your browser in a virtual machine.
