That is great news. Unfortunately, usenet's are only one of many ways for individuals to garner these types of materials. There are darknets that defend free speech in oppressed countries but by their very nature can also be used for these purposes and there is no way to shut them down.

I was in Hong Kong a few weeks back, I saw tons of people with the 1st gen. iPhones which meant they were all hacked ones.

I think this is a great idea. I recently bought a pool pump and paid close attention to the comments on the websites I was looking at. I want to hear from "real people" how dealing with the company is and how they like the product.

I still have a hard time comprehending this. One does not expect our talented to commit such crimes. But I guess there is still a dark nature in even the brightest minds.

Wow. This comes as a bit of a shocker to me. Just a few months ago JS-Kit was just a little uppity startup...looked like a one-man part-time gig, then it became professional and now this significant acquisition.

I don't find the idea of these photo frames really impressive, but the fact that it is networked is pretty cool...and indicative of what a wired home will look like in ten years (oops, wireless home).

Yes, perhaps some clarification is needed. I love the Yahoo start page, but still use Google for search (when I'm not messing around with Wikia's search, which sucks but I like because it allows people-driven results).

Still a lot less than I would like to see and some of these services have previously been available through third parties - but glad to see Microsoft is moving in this direction.

What is really fascinating about this article is that essentially AVG has accidentally played the role of a DDoS, or massive botnet. This is the exact way one would expect a DDoS to occur - except this DDoS was indiscriminate in the sites it hit. Additionally, it will be interesting to see if any legal controversies arise. What is the right of a third-party company to access materials publicly accessible on the web? Realistically, one can expect that both Slashdot and Whirlpool saw an increase in bandwidth costs due exclusively to LinkScanner's constant calls. Finally, wouldn't it make sense for AVG to have a whitelist of sites? It could then check those sites only occasionally. We know that sites like Yahoo, Microsoft, Slashdot, etc. are generally safe - no need to scan them every time a user visits the site.

Must say this comes as quite the shocker to me. VMWare is an innovative and market leading company and Greene has been their CEO for a number of years. Not sure this is a good move by mother ship EMC (which acquired VMWare).

There's several critical bugs for Apple PC's that Apple hasn't taken care of. Because of some weird cultural paradigm most Apple users turn a blind eye to their security apathetic company.

Very impressive. But so many of these technologies come out in the lab, we'll have to see what finally arrives at market.
