Swisher thinks it ironic that Facebook is upset over the exposure of their founder's private information while at the same time implementing an extensive user analysis for marketing purposes. I think this is a bit off, seeing that Facebook is dealing with aggregate and anonymous data, while Zuckerberg's data is such personal and identifiable information as social security numbers.

Ironic, Yes, But Zuckerberg’s Privacy Violated.
Will be interesting to see how Sun responds. I'm imagining this will filter its way up the chain, being published by NWW and all.

Sun bullied, used threats to gain control of open source project, former owner says
Wilson (one of those bullied) said he thinks Sun’s move does not represent Sun’s true open source strategy. He says it “was a relatively isolated incident brought on by middle management acting of their own accord.” It is a shame that this stuff happens.

That's a good point, I forgot Xen was purchased. This will allow Sun to control the development process if Citrix ever takes the opensource version away.

Thanks for the distinction. I'm not sure either why they don't just develop Xen. However, Xen will probably become much more commercialized with the new acquisition by Citrix.

Kindle sells out in 5.5 hours - Engadget
Yeah, I'm not sure who to believe with this article. Dilger seems to be claiming that Microsoft is playing with the numbers to make Zune look like its building speed when in fact its still failing. I'll keep my eyes open for any other articles on the topic.

Why Microsoft’s Zune is Still Failing.
The Zune is failing? I was actually under the impression it was doing fine. I've used some too and they are slick.

Google Android Operating System Demo
I find this to be really exciting. I wonder how long before they have it fully implemented. I'd seriously consider building this into my Windows 2003 environment once it is implemented. The backup and redundancy and simple features of ZFS with this make it well worth it. ZFS already supports ACL's, so the Windows security is supported. With the native Samba.. rock on.

The main difference between xVM and Zones is that xVM is a hypervisor that will run below the OS. Zones runs in Solaris and allows sandboxing programs or even operating systems (limited to Solaris versions and Linux). Zones are faster, but the idea of zones is more towards security and compatibility rather than virtualization. I am confused why they would spend the money and research of xVM. xVM is basically going to be an offshoot of the Xen hypervisor. Why not just put the research and development into Xen?

I'm glad Amazon is moving into this market, and offering newspapers in this electronic format is a great idea. The lack of standards support is a killer though.

I read this it sounds like a great idea to me. I don't know if I want Obama to be president, but I would like a Chief Technology Officer!

Obama wants to make government Chief Technology Officer.
Hmmm...Not too fond of this idea. Seems to me like they are trying to discredit Google by creating their own alternative. But the reason people care about Google PageRank isn't b/c it is an accurate view of site popularity, but b/c it determines whether being linked by a given site will be a positive or not. It seems to me like this may be a response to the recent decision by Google to penalize sites that include paid links (e.g. PPP's bread and butter).

Skype doesn't support 911 (we both have cells). But, even with the extra phoneset cost you are looking at less than $250 for the first year and $100 for each additional year with Skype.

Yeah, unfortunately there is...and hardware support seems to lack standardization - so just because a Broadcom and Intel NIC both support it doesn't mean they will play nice.

Vonage has better support than Skype and they will provide all the handsets for you. They also have great deals for long distance and such compared to traditional POTS. Vonage also supports all the 911 necessities. I don't know if Skype does or not.

I would like to use jumbo frames at my work, but yes, i haven't done extensive testing so I'm not even considering anything until I can do that. There seems to be a lot of room for error.

I'm not sure why anyone is still using Vonage. Simply put, they aren't the cheapest option. While they may have been a good alternative in the past to traditional phone carriers, now Skype offers a significantly better deal. For less than $100/yr. you can get complete phone service with an extra $149 for the phone and conversion device that makes Skype entirely non-reliant on your computer. Vonage needs to get bought out by a large company - just like Skype did by eBay - that has an existing patent portfolio to protect it with. Unfortunately, with the patent settlements Vonage has already made it is a very undesirable acquisition target. Here's hoping they can do something to reverse their fortunes.

I've seen jumbo frames help with problems - such as slow speeds, but much more often I've seen jumbo frames wreak major havoc. If you install them make sure to perform extensive testing following their configuration, as even devices that support them may not play nice.
