Tom Jowitt writes an excellent article about the rising threat of malware. ScanSafe Global Threat report documents a 278% increase in malware so far this year. Highly disturbing is the fact that "Today, compromises of legitimate Web sites are occurring en masse, and in nearly all cases there are no readily visible signs of the attacks." Large and trusted websites like Wal-Mart, Business Week, Ralph Lauren Home, and Race for Life have been targeted by SQL injection attacks. Safescan says the reason for the huge increase in attacks is the advent of automated attack tools. Mary Landesman, senior security researcher, ScanSafe states "The impacted Web sites are typically known, legitimate, and trusted sites with a business purpose. These are sites that users visit frequently and the attacks are so stealthy and unobtrusive, that most visitors don't know that they've been infected." DiscussBury
